Icelandic Sheep in Canada
In 1979 when my husband and I moved to our farm in Eastern Ontario, there was no question that sheep were going to be our primary livestock. My husband came from England and I from Iceland, both traditional sheep countries. The question was only “what breed?”. My dream was to have Icelandic sheep since those were the only ones I knew, the breed being the only one in Iceland. Besides, with the exception of my city-dwelling parents, all my ancestors had had that breed. But it was only a dream since I was told that the Icelandic government did not allow export of the sheep.
