“Your dog has diabetes,” If the veterinarian the diagnosis, master and mistress are indeed relieved that now the cause of suffering is found Wautzis and he continues with treatment carefree dog’s life can cause quite a. On the other hand, man is to be insecure. For the future must ensure it that the “sugar dog all his life at the right time the right dose of insulin is replaced.

Daily injection is vital

First of all: How Canine diabetes mellitus – so the technical term for diabetes in domestic dogs – should be handled, you will be responsible veterinarian explain a detail. This includes the use of a blood glucose meter and associated test strips, the administration of insulin. For home to mum and dad in future nurse “be” and his vital daily insulin injection administered Wautzi. This may not be easy at first and overcoming cost, but after a short time and using some tricks spraying, the soon become routine.

In contrast to human insulin is replaced by a mixed Wautzi
Insulin, the substance must be supplied from outside and through – an injection under the subcutaneous route) (little skin (pancreas) of a “sugar dog” Because of the pancreas. Because Wautzi thicker skin than be a man has one, should the needle length 12.7 mm (needle size 0.33 mm). In general Wautzi is called mixed insulin (Caninsulin) administered once.

It consists of 70 percent from long-acting insulin and 30 percent from short-acting insulin. Which is responsible for the breakdown of carbohydrates, which are in the bowl? Must be injected, depending on the diagnosis, once or twice daily at intervals of about 12 hours. At the “pricking the fairs and the injection of insulin to get used dogs usually quickly – especially if it is after all Piekser a Guetzeli.

No expensive special food needed
What is the insulin dose for Wautzi to be depends, but with his body weight as well. Therefore, it is good that the dog is in good shape and overweight has not. By the way: Expensive special food for diabetic dogs need not be. It is important that a high proportion of crude fiber in the cup depend. Thus, to indigestible ingredients of plant origin called hard -. Crude fiber control the bowel and provide for a slower absorption of carbohydrates and thus to better blood sugar regulation.

Note: When feeding homemade food, the composition must be the same every day, so insulin needs to be avoided unnecessary fluctuations.

Adjustment is done in two phases
The “adjustment” of a dog sugar in two phases: the so-called “insulin adjustment phase” or “stabilization phase” and the “maintenance phase”. In insulin adjustment phase, it is important that the individual insulin dose and determined is determined. Pet owners need to administer a low dose. By measuring and documentation of blood sugar levels in a daily profile, a detailed monitoring and administration for several weeks (home monitoring) finally, the individual insulin dose can be determined. This must Wautzi about half an hour after the main meal is an ever injected. The time of feeding should be carefully observed as possible in order unnecessary blood sugar fluctuations do not occur.

Long-term monitoring can be learned by anyone
The long-term monitoring – the so-called Home Monitoring – you can accomplish as a dog owner himself. , the amount consumed, Harnabsatzmenge and once a week, the sugar content in urine (test strip) or in the blood (commercially available blood glucose meter) will be reviewed this case. In well-adjusted dogs, should pet owners control these values every two weeks? A veterinary inspection is recommended once every quarter.

Always a treat for the road
Finally, another tip: Like the people manifests itself in a hypo Wautzi by prominent symptoms: unmediated aggression, shaking and wobbling as well as sudden anxiety or cravings. Anyone with a sugar dog on longer walks on the road should be prepared hypo four-legged friend and one for best grape in their pockets. If the dog does not even accept, glucose and crumble a little give in the back pocket. Through the oral mucosa of the sugar reaches the bloodstream immediately and Wautzi is fit again soon.

The technical points are as follows.

1. strengthen the lamb feeding lamb breast-feeding after birth , in time to eat colostrum , to enhance physical fitness, resistance to disease and meconium discharge a very important role. In addition to the early milk, try to eat the lamb as soon as possible , the new-born lambs to early feeding , that is, to the grass for 10 days , 20 days feeding , appropriate exercise , after 1 month , 10 days to exercise the spring lamb . For special cases , artificial feeding methods can be used , such as bottles feeding method, feeding method pots , but to pay attention to timing, temperature, qualitative , quantitative , Cazui after feeding to prevent biting licking each other , causing disease. Through the above measures, the rapid growth of the entire breast-feeding lambs , daily weight gain of up to 300 grams.

2. improve the cultivation of sheep and lambs bred in 3 ~ 4 months away from milk, to mate the age of 1 is called breeding sheep. At this point should be composed of male and female were bred group. Bred sheep in the first few months when conditions are good nutrition , weight gain , although not as rapidly lactation , 8 months ago is still a daily weight gain of more than 150 grams a day to be 0.7 to 1 kg of dry feed . Need to supplement crude protein content of 15 % to 16 % mixed concentrate of about 300 grams . Mixed concentrate formula : 50% of corn , peas or diesel 25%, 25% ~ 30% wheat bran , bone meal 2%, salt 0.5 %. 1 to 5 months old goat the fastest weight gain , after raising the cost of keeping the longer the higher the efficiency lower. Therefore, in order to be effective sheep fattening lamb slaughter that year .

3. Feeding additives:

(1 ) Compound feed additive fattening sheep : lamb and year -out for the ram , the elderly and adult sheep fattening . Sheep Buwei concentrate discharge , 90 days fattening mixture , 134 g average daily gain , consumption per kilogram of weight gain 4.4 kg mixture . Fattening and improve economic efficiency, shorten the fattening period, to reduce labor consumption and save feed.

(2 ) Monensin sodium : also known as Rumensin , monensin , monensin . Role is to control and improve the efficiency of rumen fermentation , thereby enhancing the rate of weight gain and feed conversion rate. Per kg diet with 25 to 30 mg.

(3 ) Olaquindox , also known as rapid fertility spirit, alcohol and other quinoline amide , a synthetic antibacterial agent. Can affect metabolism , with the promotion of protein assimilation. Per kg diet with 50 to 80 mg.

(4 ) Zinc Bacitracin : A growth-promoting antimicrobial agents . Conducive to nutrient absorption in the intestine , improve feed utilization, the amount of lamb mixture of 10 kg to 20 mg.

(5 ) of urea phosphate : Trade name of cattle and sheep music. Ruminant livestock Is a new type of non-protein nitrogen feed additives. It is in the rumen was significantly lower than the rate of hydrolysis of urea, can promote the breeding of sheep and the physiological metabolism of nitrogen , phosphorus, calcium absorption , its adding 10 grams each day .

6 ) urea : Use for adult sheep , generally by 1.5% to 2 % of the proportion of mixed feeding in the concentrated feed .

Should note the following :

Feeding Amount : Every day the number of feeding the sheep body weight accounted for 0.02 %, or adult ewes at Feeding Amount 10 to 15 grams, more than 6 months, 6 to 8 grams of young sheep , only the first Feeding Amount To the required 1 / 10 of feeding . Gradually increased to 10 days can be added to a specified amount ; In order to prevent nitrogen poisoning, urea can not be fed alone , and do not dissolve in water, feed , feeding within half an hour after the adaptation , such as intermittent and then feeding , Feeding Amount should be gradually re- Increased ; on Bingyang , weak sheep fed or not fed less ; poisoning save : 20 % to 30% sugar, pour services , 0.5% of the vinegar can also be 0.2 to 0.5 liters or 1 to 3 liters of yogurt fed .

Llamas have been a part of the landscape at Groveland Farm since 1988. We fell in love with these wide-eyed, woolly creatures early on, but it is only recently that our numbers have grown to the extent that we are able to offer some of them for sale.

Our breeding program is geared toward producing well-balanced, conformation ally correct llamas with even temperaments and sound genetics. Our females are good mothers who produce plenty of milk and no birthing problems. We are also breeding for a variety of fiber types, suitable for blending with wool or other fibers, or hand-spinning into yarn. For those who are new to llamas, you may not know that there are trends and fashions in llamas. When we first bought, about all you could find was white llamas, so people started breeding for dark colored fleeces. Then, after there were lots of dark llamas, you heard, “Oh, another brown llama”, with the yawn implicit in their tone of voice. These days, ringlets are all the rage.

Well, a person can try to chase those fashions or set their own fashions. I guess I’m brave enough to say that we don’t kneel down to the high-dollar mavens of style. Enough of those folks have gone out of business in the last few years to make one think that maybe alot of them were in it for the money. That leaves many of us who are in this for the love of the animals and the heck with chasing this fashion trend or that. This is my message: I want a good, strong animal who isn’t too extreme in any way. I want straight legs, strong toplines, good tailset, and athletic animals with good dispositions. There is a ‘look’ I like, which you can see from the photos on our site.

Our blood lines include English, Canadian, Chilean and North American genetics; good, proven, solid breeding stock which has stood the test of time. I don’t have anything against the folks who are breeding or buying the Peruvian or Bolivian South American imports, but you won’t find me standing in that line. I like to have some track record behind the animals and some of the imports have been so recent that they don’t have any provenance. Speaking my mind this way may make some folks mad at me, but I do want people who do business with us to know our philosophy.

Our senior herdsire is Embarcadero (Deacon’s White Knight x Sable of Tunitas Creek). We have known and loved Embarcadero for years; bred to him, and bought his daughters from Loren Hoppe. In 1998, I was able to convince Loren to sell Embarcadero to us, and we are proud to announce that Groveland Farm is the new home of this great stud. He is half Chilean and came from the fabled Tunitas Creek ranch at Half Moon Bay (now sold).

Barco has a most regal carriage and moves beautifully; he also has fabulous soft fiber. He is a breeder’s dream, as he is extremely easy to work with, knows his business and gets the job done.

We have several Embarcadero daughters and their offspring in our herd, so we needed a boy to breed to them. We have been doing ‘outsides’ for several years. Now we have a new strong herdsire prospect that we believe will cross well with the Embarcadero lines.

Our most recent addition to the breeding program is a young fellow born September 23, 1998. He is a Senior Ricardo son out of a Quebec daughter. His name is Aspen Hills Montage. Montage is super silky soft with very wavy fiber that floats when he moves. He’s got some growing-up to do, but already shows that conformation, presence and carriage we look for in a stud.

Our dam side is pretty much right where I want it. Eleven years of breeding and acquisitions have provided us with about 15 females who are joys to be around. We don’t want a large herd! I do most of the llama work myself, including the breeding, so I need a group that is manageable for me. And I want to keep it fun. When there are too many animals for me to cope with adequately, I get all stressed out, and what’s the point of THAT? I can go to the office and get that, for no charge! So here at home, especially since I got sick, we want a nice manageable number. I think I’m there (you can imagine Rusty wiping the sweat off his forehead – “Whew”).

Since we have sheep as well as llamas, many people have asked if we use our llamas as ‘Guard Llamas’. This would be a good place to address that issue. Llamas are prey animals, the same as sheep are. My main gripe with the concept of putting llamas with a flock of sheep is the idea that the llamas can ‘guard’ the sheep. I would much prefer to have them referred to as “Watch Llamas”.

I think that fits the function that they perform much better. From a perusal of our site, you can see that we also raise and train livestock guardian dogs (LGD), and we have seen that llamas in the same pasture with a LGD will often see a potential problem sooner than the dog. Used this way, I have no problem condoning this use for llamas. It takes a special type of personality in a llama to be ‘guardy’ and this is often inconsistent with the way I want my llamas to behave around me and my other animals.

The N’Dama breed is the most representative “Bos Taurus” breed in West Africa. The origin of this breed is located in the Fouta-Djallon highlands of Guinea (Conakry). From there the N’Dama has spread in the sudanian and guinean regions.

Being , it has been used for large scale dissemination for grazing savannah in Congo, Central Africa, Gabon, Nigeria and Zaire, especially in the regions infested by the tse-tse fly.

Source:
Trypanotolemi cattle and livestock development in West and Central Africa (Vol-1) FAO; Rome 1987
The N’Dama is a hardy breed, medium size type (100 cm at shoulder height for cows; 120 cm for bulls) with a large and strong head and with lyre-shaped horns.

Its skin, with short and thin hair, is fawn colored but varies from sand to black color, sometimes spotted.

Cows produce only 2 to 3 liters milk per day during 7 to 8 months. The N’Dama breed is used for meat and the ratio carcass/liveweight is around 50%. The meat has a very good flavor without much fat.

Average liveweight for a mature steer varies between 250 to 300 kg.

In West Africa, to date there are approximately 7 million head of N’Dama.

For the last 65 years, this breed has been developed in Zaire, where large scale herds have been improved by permanent selection practices by a private company named “Compagnie J. VAN LANCKEIC’ which owns over 40,000 head of purebred N’Dama.

This company has managed to increase, by selection, the average liveweight by 30 to 50kg without reducing the breed hardiness. This company is collaborating with the I.L.R.I. (International Livestock Research Institute) for an improved genetical analysis and selection of this breed.

In the course of their history Belarus Red cattle were repeatedly improved by infusion of the blood of the superior related red breeds. During the last 100 years the blood of six breeds was used, Angeln and German Red at the end of the last and early in this century, Polish Red and Danish Red in the twenties and thirties, and Estonian Red and Latvian Brown in the fifties of this century. The blood of Danish Red cattle is currently being introduced again.

A study carried out in Grodno region in 1948-49 proved that it is expedient to breed the Belarus Red inter se. They are of a single type, adapted to the local ecological, climatic and feeding conditions, and undemanding as to feed. They respond to improved feeding and management by increased milk production and high fat percentage.

The breeding of these cattle was carried out at the Vasilishkovskaya animal husbandry experiment station. In 1967 volume 1 of the National Herdbook of the Belarus Red breed was published. At present, Belarus Red cattle are found in all regions of Belarus; however, they are commonest in Grodno and Minsk regions. In 1980 they numbered 429,000.

The appearance of the Belarus Red cows is characterized by the following features. The head is medium long, not wide, with a long face. The poll is pronounced. The horns are of medium size. The neck is thin and of moderate length. The withers are not sharp, occasionally divided. The chest is of medium depth, wide enough. The back is level, slightly narrow. The loin is long and level, of medium width. The mid-part of the body is well developed. The abdomen is capacious, not drooping. The rump is level, slightly raised. The hindquarters are of medium length and width, with protruding hips. The legs are comparatively thin, bony, not long, correctly set. Sometimes legs are splayed or bowed. The udder is medium in volume, glandular, cup-shaped or roundish. The teats are cylindrical, of medium size. The skin is thin, elastic, mobile. The skeleton is light and strong. The musculature is moderately developed. The conformation is harmonious and compact; the constitution delicate.

The color is red or rust-red of various shades. many animals are noted for their longevity, while maintaining normal reproduction. Body measurements (in cm) are as follows: withers height 128.7, chest depth 68.6, oblique body length 158.3, chest girth 189.8, cannon bone girth 19.4 (National Herdbook, vol. 1, 1967). The average live weight of mature cows is 420-500 kg (maximum 530 kg); that of the bulls is 750-850 kg (950-1000 kg maximum).

The potential of the modern Belarus Red cattle has not been completely realized. The average milk yield of the stock evaluated at the breeding farms in 1981 was 2557 kg with 3.69% fat; at the best farms it was 3053 kg with 3.62% fat. In the herd of Vasilishkovski breeding center in Grodno region the average milk yield in 1982 was 2507 kg with 3.73% fat. In recent years several groups of cows of this herd and of Shchuchin experimental station averaged 4514 kg of milk with 4.08% fat. In her 4th lactation cow Vyetv 2016 produced 5986 kg of milk with 3.91% fat and 3.70% protein; Malta produced in her 3rd lactation, 6056 kg of milk with 4.55% fat; Volna produced, in her 4th lactation, 5906 kg with 4.85% fat.

Beef and fattening qualities of Belarus Red cattle are satisfactory: under favorable conditions of feeding and management the young stock display a high growth rate and early maturity. The breed comprises 6 basic lines and 2.’D families. To preserve these cattle conservation herds have been set up and a bank of frozen semen of the best sires of all basic lines has been established. The breeding program for the improvement of Belarus Red cattle aims at the following parameters for the purebreds: the live weight of mature cows should be 500-540 kg, the milk production per lactation should be 4.5-5.0 thousand kg with fat content of 4.0-4.2% and protein content not less than 3.6%.
